Open Access, Self-archiving Academic Papers in Japan

Got this from a friend on Linkedin from Japan... "We are managing a private organization that advocates "open access, self-archiving" for never-before-published academic papers in Japan. The organization is running the following web site in order to promote "self archiving". Check http://www.myopenarchive.org/ and follow http://twitter.com/MyOpenArchive.

We are collecting full paper, short paper, extended abstract, position paper, letter, technical report, poster, resume, article, and etc. One of our goals is to advocate "Open Access" mind. We are introducing ideas such as openID, Creative Commons, Scribd iPaper, and altenative scoring systems (social bookmarks and Hatena Star). Many Japanese scholars believes that Japanese journals are not yet so well-known that foreign scholars will not refer to those papers in Japanese journals. Naturally scholars wants to be referred to by other scholars, so they will submit their papers to foreign journals."

Not exactly accurate translation to Japanese but trying...

Podcasts on Ipod Motivate my Running

Every Sunday early AM, Tues and Thurs PM with Emerald Coast Racing Team, and Wed PM with CaptnFun Runners at Pensacola Beach, I hook up with my classic IPOD with 100s of podcasts from Geekspeak.org, Bending the Needle, VoIP Users Conference and Stardust Global Ventures' Incidental Interviews. It takes my mind off the humid heat in Pensacola, Florida and on to what's happening in my industry and in my pasttime of technology in general.

The most recent podcast interview of mine is with David Mandelstam of Sangoma on DIDX podcasts. What a treat!

Someone commented on my list of interviews as, "It's definitely not some secret club of yours that you interview. They are developers, CEOs, inventors, innovative monetizers, clients, newbies, and even competitors in your archive of media channel videos, podcasts and photos."

I believe everyone I meet has much of value to share with the rest of the world. I do not have a secret club of industry friends. I believe even in the collaboration of competitors.

Judge Businesspeople by Action not Appearance

Some male friends from Cameroon just emailed me this award press release, and the best part about it is Janhavi Dhariwal's words, "It is not at all tough for a woman to make a mark in the society today provided ... They should not be judged by their attires but by the work they do."

I am clapping my hands at the start of this new and hopeful work week!

Apology for the ITCN Asia 2008 Presentation, Attend 2009!

Several people have emailed me, Suzanne, did you create this power point presentation that is listed at ITCN Asia conference website?

No, I did not. It was written by someone else in my company for me to speak in my place on the keynote panel at ITCN Asia 2008. I did use this power presentation. I also have apologized many times for the typos and for the part about the accent of Chinese and Vietnamese on the English language. I have many friends from both countries who I respect very much.

I am apologizing again as I received four more requests this past week... the same... Suzanne, did you write this power point? No, I did not, and I will check all PPTs given to me for presentation in the future to edit carefully before using. I learned my lesson.

On the bright side, ITCN Asia 20009 is going to be excellent with the most powerful and innovative entrepreneurs and companies from the East and West August 3-5, 2009 at the Karachi Expo Centre! Our DIDXchange is a media partner this conference as well as a dozen other of the best conferences, trade shows, expos, and exhibitions in the world related to IT, business and IP communications.

How to Treat your Over-achieving Team Members

Once upon a time, I worked for Kelly Services so that I could get new job experiences quickly and see the world in new ways. One of the places I worked at was Johnson's Supply who sold wholesale industrial supplies. Their one complaint to me was to slow down because they would run out of things for me to do.

When your hardest working, proactive staff do things like:
1. Try to talk to you face to face about major and crucial issues.
2. Try to suggest new ways to do things.
3. Refuse to write logs that list only five items when they do a range of 50 or more major categories of tasks.
4. Inform you that property the company gave them was stolen by someone else.
5. Get way more done in one day with high quality results that your other employees.
6. Try to work through team efforts, not always by themselves.
7. Try to discuss with you why they are unhappy working with you and that they are considering... leaving the company.
8. Ask why they have been making less than $21,000 USD per year for 6 years and would like a raise to say... $24,000 USD per year.

Don't:
1. Tell them that they should take care of this on email or IM. You are saying to them that they are of no value to you, not valuable enough to talk to face to face about the company.
2. Tell them keep their new ideas to themselves or argue each suggestion down as not usable.
3. Insist on the log when you will not read it and when you might start reading the first few lines of the emails they copy like they read all of your complete emails. Or start sending them a log every day also.
4. Lay them off or fire them. Instead, begin a police investigation and keep them on!! Of course!
5. Give them twice more to do and get upset when they don't get it done before 5 PM.
6. Tell them it is their job and not to involve anyone else.
7. Respond that they are dispensable, tell them you will replace them with someone at less than their current wages, and that, "I don't work for you. I don't even work for myself." Or... that your boyfriend has been good for the company. WT ... O?
8. Tell them you can replace them for less. Instead, thank your lucky stars they have not left you. You need them, and there is nothing to be ashamed of in admitting that.

Get a grip, CEOs, bosses, presidents, all the head honchos. You will lose your best people.

My Name in Polish is Zuzia

A friend of mine in Poland is going to have a baby, and she says that if it is a girl, she might name it after me. Even if she doesn't, it is okay with me. Just the fact, that she thought about it, makes me feel good. I've met so many wonderful ladies in my life. My mom Evelyn, my sisters Lisa-Anne and Jill, my past and current colleagues: Julie, Kelly, Jodie, Joanna, Dee, Anne, Hina, Saleha, Shumaila, and Ksusha; so many business and industry clients, partners, mentors, and friends such as Karen Campagna, Allison Smith, Kathleen Reed, Monica Dytko Riley, Anna Marie DeRosa, Ashley Tan, Bernita Charmaine InCent, Beth Hoskin, Edna Cabcabin, Dee Meyers, Brooke Afick, Carolyn Schuk, Jehan Ara, Maria Morales, Debbie Grasso, Dunia Campos, and several more.

I want to showcase them all, in depth, their talents, their accomplishments, how they have inspired me. I'll start soon with some of the ladies that I met at the First Annual Asian Women Power Conference (hmm... the link is down today, wonder what's wrong?) as soon as my business partner mails me my Nokia memory card that has 100s of videos and pictures I took there.

Zostań mentorem dla kogoś dzisiaj. By the way, DIDX.net has wholesale DID of Poland. You have four DIDX sellers (vendors), 3 with a rating of 5 on a scale of 0-8, very good. There are 25 cities available and the pricing is great at $3.50 to $6.00 setup and $2.99 to $6.00 per month, depending upon which seller you choose. DIDX sellers choose the price and features they wish to make available.

Do you need Poland DID? Ask your telephony service provider if they are a member of DIDX and if not, invite them to sign up and start buying and selling and most of all, making you happy.

Two Female Entrepreneurs on Direct Inward Dialing

Maria Gomez is the Customer Relations Manager and Co-Founder of GGGG Corporation. Suzanne Bowen, that's me, is the Vice President and Co-Founder of Super Technologies, Inc. in 1999 who offer the DIDXchange, the wholesale direct inward dialing marketplace. We discuss in English and Spanish what is so great about direct inward dialing, selling and buying DID on DIDX, and in particular the power of having a local presence in Colombia via a phone number.

Visit http://www.didx.net/podcast/?p=episode&name=2009-06-12_mariag_columbiadidx.mp3 at our DIDX podcast and listen.

Maria, from one end of Florida to the other... see you soon.

It seems like only yesterday, but it was 130 years ago in 1879, that the Bell company acquired Edison's patents for the carbon microphone from Western Union. This made the telephone practical for long distances and it was no longer necessary to shout to be heard at the receiving telephone. Funny, but on most cell phones it is again
necessary to shout to be heard;

*Yo nunca he recibido criticismo de cómo yo hablo y escribo Urdu/Hindi

Suzanne of DIDX meets with Asian telcos in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur

(Talking about myself in third person, not a good idea. ;-) Singapore is 13 hours ahead in time from that in Pensacola, Florida (CST). My roundtrip to Singapore and back is June 14 - 22, 2009. We will have a booth at CommunicAsia and we will serve as a media partner, taking podcast and video interviews and documenting the great business development there via photo galleries, press releases and blog posts. I've already set up several appointments with Asian telephony companies who plan to sell DID on www.didx.net.

I'll be in Kuala Lumpur on June 18 to be a part of one of the 1st Asia Women Business Power Conference panel discussions. Can't wait, what a great opportunity. Thank you, Andrew Wong and MIRC, for asking me.

I want to thank the readers of this blog and the one at TMC and the DIDX blog who have referred Asian telephony companies to meet with me.

Don't stop sending to me! Not sure when I'll be in Singapore or Malaysia again.

Weekend of Tie Dye, Running and Skype Experimentation

So, it's the weekend, and a few friends, Lisa Johnson and Robert Thompson, Beverly and Steve Fair, Dee Meyers and her husband, Michael and I plan to try some tie dye after we spend first, a few hours get rid of house clutter at our yard sale. We'll probably cook some Hawaiian food together from a great cookbook Dee brought over.

We did a one hour run this morning starting from Running Wild on Scenic Highway in Pensacola. I'm still trying to "come back" from a year of shoulder dislocating travel, 60 hour work weeks, and a car wreck and so I'm slow, slow running. I was lucky enough to have someone to run with me the first few miles, and we talked about tie dye, the beautiful weather, men and what they usually talk about, the book Being Digital, over a decade old now, and how to use Skype.

I am not embarrassed to say I use Skype just as I am not embarrassed to say I use Gizmo Project, Truphone, Nimbuzz, TringMe, Jaxtr, Super-Phone, Virtualphoneline, BlinkMind's video phone service, SpeechPhone, and more for my telecommunication needs. Each come in handy for different reasons at different times. VoIP snobbery can be pretty claustrophobic.

I'm tired of rules.

It was my pleasure to explain to my fellow runner how to use Skype, what it will do for her and all the neat "plug-ins" you can use with it like PrettyMay. Next time, we'll talk about Gizmo Project. Pensacola in June 2009 on the weekend... it's a lovely time with friends and family. Can't wait for tomorrow with our group yard sale, tie dye trials, and Hawaiian cooking. Maybe a little downloading SIP agent to applicable cell phones?

New phone numbers from Jordan and Iceland on DIDX

Wholesale IP communications can now satisfy clients who need a local presence in Jordan, Iceland as well as Beijing, China; South Korea and Japan. Check the complete list of countries' DID available at http://www.didx.net/did and more indepth information on these particular new areas at http://blogs.didx.net/2009/06/new-phone-numbers-on-wholesale-didx-of.html.

Let me backtrack because some readers are asking:
1. What is a DID? It's an acronym meaning direct inward dialing. Today we use it synonymously with the phrase "phone number." Because of voice over Internet, SIP and open source telephony such as Asterisk and FreeSWITCH and more, telephone service providers are potentially able to provide anyone a phone number from any country in the world ... to have a local presence there.

2. Why would anyone want a phone number from Jordan or Iceland if they are not living and working in one of those countries? If you want to start receiving phone calls from people in a certain city or country, you want to make it easy for them to call you. They are more likely to call you if the phone number they dial is local to them. You buy a phone number that is local to them and set it to ring to your favorite instant messenger, a SIP or IAX2 address, landline or cell phone. Ask your telephone service provider if they are using DIDX.net? If they are, you have available to you ... phone numbers from more 60 countries. If they are not, send them to http://www.didx.net/signup.
