Share your thoughts on Mobile Myths
Myths to support or debunk:
1: Users want power and aesthetics. Features are everything.
2: What we really need is a Swiss army knife.
3: Focus groups and other traditional market analysis tools are the best way to determine user needs.
4: If it works in Silicon Valley, it will work anywhere.
5: Every application on the planet will be accessible via mobile devices.
6: The industry is converging on a UI standard.
7: Highly usable systems are just around the corner.
8: One underlying operating system will dominate.
9: Mobile devices will be free-or nearly free.
10: Advanced data-oriented services are just around the corner.
11: Shrink your fingers, big buttons and screens are going away
Very interesting question added by Anthony Dubidad of Akendi company.

Machine 2 Machine Technology at CTIA Wireless and I.T. Entertainment
Have you noticed the increasing plethora of wireless positioning technology in 3G networks? Note the mash-ups with global navigation satellite systems, "telematics are re-emerging to offer savings, efficiency, and environmentally sustainable solutions in all major industries."
So, the questions may be... how can this benefit your company and if it is worth it, how do you get started? Berg Insight analysts "estimated that from 37.5 million in 2008, wireless M2M network connections will grow at a compound annual rate of 37.9 percent during the next five years, reaching 186 million connections globally." That is no small number.
Just like in any new technology, you may currently need to buy from a variety of suppliers to put together the big picture. It is causing businesses who never thought they would ever work together to do so such "as fixed, mobile or satellite operators, short-range wireless systems (e.g. ZigBee, Bluetooth, or RFID), hardware (e.g. chips, antennas, modules, and sensors), and software applications that interface with location data and mapping technologies. But as the technology matures, some winning companies will emerge with turnkey solutions."
Gather information about "Smart Telemetry can automate interaction between your assets and your operations.
Topics to include:
•The role of SIM cards and SmartSIM in vehicle and asset management
•Mesh networks, 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE & the promise of ubiquitous connectivity
•Maintaining client privacy and security in supply chains
•Measuring return on investment in industrial technologies"

Les Paul and the Media Server Industry
The question is ...
Besides the electric guitar, Les Paul was a the father or dubbing and overlaying voices and sounds, the impact was to create media mixing, which directly relates to what we do in telecommmunications.
Does any one have more direct ties to that history, they would like to share? Answer on Linkedin.

ITEXPO West 09 Helps Exhibitors Color Coordinate
Another great best practice of ITEXPO! You can sign up to exhibit, sponsor and participate in many ways, but I would say hurry because it's filling up fast and will be bigger and more meaningful for business and technical development, more than ever.
(DIDXchange is a media partner for ITEXPO West and also an exhibitor at booth 125 where you watch live demonstrations of DIDX signups, interop testing, and ... DIDx now supporting T.38!)
We ordered blue carpet and table skirts for our booth this year. For once, we'll match! :-D

Bandwidth vs Applications on Mobile, 4GWE
As communications evolve to the next generation of wireless broadband, the customer’s device selection seems to be more about bandwidth than the applications. With RIMs return to prominence as the leading smart phone, customers are choosing a device for reasons beyond simply the applications.
We can assume then, that bandwidth matters.
But this is not where the story ends. The story is evolving. With new phones coming from Google and Palm, the market is surely going to expand.
When it does, what is the case for the new versus the old, and how can a carrier
support the growth? As a leading wireless carrier, Verizon has had to face the
realities of working with device manufacturers to maintain its’ leadership role.
What decisions can carriers make to retain their existing customers in a saturated
market? What device will help retain and keep customers happy? Is this device all
about the applications, the bandwidth? How does a carrier ensure
that the network can support a device’s broadband applications and what are the business case issues to support the deployment of advanced wireless broadband devices?
At 4GWE, you will get answers to these questions and more as we investigate new applications and business models for 4G devices and services, MID device adoption, MID impact on 4G demand and more.
Register NOW, don't miss the opportunity to engage in the discussions that will help you and your company solidify your wireless strategy.
Reserve your place, and receive early bird pricing.

4G Trends' Predictions for Mobile Transactions in 2009
Date: March 5, 2009
Time: 11:00 AM EST
Duration: One Information Packed Hour.
COST: FREE.
Register at http://4gtrends.com/?p=113
Telebriefing Summary
The rollout of mobile transactions services throughout the world is highly dependent upon the penetration of financial services and the mobile phone throughout the world. The progress made in 2008 in conjunction with the global economic crisis will improve the availability of services but there will be no monetization of services until 2010. This webinar will highlight the challenges still to overcome (business model, distribution channel, value chain, technology, etc…) before commercial rollout and adoption of these services can begin.

Running Marathons and High-Powered WiFi, Best Friends
"Now 802.11y defines how new high-powered WiFi devices can operate in the US in the 3650-3700 MHz band (at ranges up to 5 km!)."
My husband and I immediately discuss why marathons and high-powered WiFi should be best friends, and I want to share that conversation with you.
Traditionally, scoring and timing of a marathon is done this way. Place the computer system in a van or trailer and data is entered offline. More recently, some race results are being uploaded near real time, but again the server is in the van or trailer itself, subject to damage and loss and elements in the open and on the drive to the race site.
If a race or even just some of the splits are situated within the 5Km range of the WiFI, think of the opportunities! Leverage of GPS. Real-time upload of scoring, timing, photos, videos and more. And... with something as cool and tiny as a PDA, Asus Netbook Eee or HP Mini-Note, or even a cell phone.
You're right, Brough. It's a game-changer.
