Blackberry Numero Uno for 2008
Though Apple Inc.’s iPhone topped Research in Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry as the domestic smartphone leader for the last half of 2008, RIM has climbed back to the No. 1 position. The BlackBerry Curve was the No. 1 selling smartphone in the United States in the first quarter of 2009. Get more info.

Snom at VoiceCon 2009 in Orlando
We met SNOM in person the first time at GITEX in Dubai 2009. What a treat! I hope that many of you will meet them and do business with the bright, friendly SNOM team at VoiceCon coming up.
Snom would like to invite you to their booth# 1041 and evaluate their first SIP based Meeting Point conference phone. Like their snom 3xx and 8xx series VoIP phones, it is interoperable with all the major SIP based ‘IP PBXs’, and Microsoft OCS 2007 R2.
The VoiceCon Exhibition runs March 30 - April 1 at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Fl. and the hours are:

Need laptops Mar. 19 and Apr 3-4 for Local LinkingArms Telethon
Need laptops on Mar 19 for test run and also April 3-4 for last test and actual telethon. Please help. (I'm loaning 2, an Asus and a Toshiba. Wish I had more to loan.)
Anyone in Pensacola area or elsewhere ... have laptops with wireless capability for use at the http://www.linkingarms.org telethon at the Pensacola Improv Center on April 4 Saturday? We need to test with each for incoming calls also from contributors calling in to donate money on Mar 19 also. That is the test-run day. Please call 1850 607 6608 or 1850 479 1473 to help. Ask for Kenny or Paul.

Tristan of Switchvox and Matthew or IPiFony at ISPCON
What would you expect to experience at a trade show for Internet service providers? Listen to Tristan Degenhart, one of the original founders of Switchvox and also working with Digium as well as Matthew Hardeman who is system architect of IPiFony discuss voip equipment and hosted IP pbx at http://www.viddler.com/explore/suzannebowen/videos/6/. Both are refreshing young people in our industry with energy, technical intelligence and marketing savvy we can all learn from.
About ISPCON...
I didn't get a chance to have a personal talk with Tristan, but we did get together with IPiFony at the DIDX Bloggers' Breakfast during ISPCON in San Jose last week (November 2008). We would like to note that Alex Goldman, Peter Radizeski, and others from Jupiter Media did an excellent job bringing participants together with the best speakers from VoipLogic, ImageStream, Google, Cogent Communications, ServerPlus, Jaguar Communications, Switchvox, IPiFony and more.
The exhibits were low in number but high in innovation and real skills at networking effectively. We all remember exhibits where the booth personnel hide in a corner and never make eye contact. ;-)

Direct Inward Termination, Common Telephony Search Keyword
Just noticed that the key words phrase "Direct Inward Termination" is being used more and more in searches that land on my blogs, so I asked several to explain what it's all about. I'll add more answers as I get them in the coming year. This blog is meant to be INTERACTIVE and COLLABORATIVE. ;-)
John Cirner of TalkMotion: Suzanne, in the 15 or so years I worked in the PBX hardware industry we would associate "direct inward termination" as the programmed association of a DID number to a specific device. Applications such as DID to fax machine or DID to system port (or modems in the old days) for remote programming interface, would be common applications.
Delwar Hossain Khan, member of Freedom2Speak and Ecomm: "I have not dealt with telecom for years now but as far as I remember DID is an old telecom term, referring 2 a particular feature of PABX system, when caller seizes a trunk port, gets a 2nd dial tone and connects with the destination number(usually a Pabx extension port).
If we consider the international telecom network as one PABX system, this could be a simplified explanation.
