User-Centric, Technology that Really Works for You and Me

Imagine if your work life were like this:
  • You are up to the activity.
  • You are able to concentrate on the activity.
  • The activity has clear goals.
  • The activity has direct feedback.
  • You feel that you control the activity.
  • Our worries and concerns disappear.
  • Our subjective experience of time is altered.
  • The time you spend with your users has a more positive atmosphere.
More confident? Creative?

Dr. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, a Hungarian psychology professor, who emigrated to the United States at the age of 22, is known for his well-documented observations, research, and personal observations on the concept of "Flow." According to him, there is common and universal agreement that when there isn't a high correlation between the challenge (the height of the mountain, depth of the dive) and the ability to meet that challenge, fun is something we're definitely not having.

Cool! I've always enjoyed wishing people a happy new year like this: may your new year be the perfect combination of joy and challenge. Maybe I should start saying "challenge and ability?"

Friday morning, some of the DIDX and Techistan team, as well as others in the IP communications and media industry who were attending PTC, will attend a bloggers' breakfast with the topic of discussion "User-Centric Technologies." We'll share more details next week.

MIT's Personas | Metropath (ologies) about YOU

The world is full of people who have so much to offer you and me. I see the Internet and especially the new confidence, inspired by social online media, as the push to you and me to take a chance and connect with each other. I met Julie Fogg of ActivePort (a company who installs and maintains Nortel turn-key converged telephone systems for businesss) via Twitter. We're going to publish a podcast interview about business and giving to those in need soon to post to DIDX podcasts.

Julie and I are good about encouraging each other to try to new online "tools" that might help us in our life or professional goals. She mentioned that our podcast should be done in Second Life. (Help! ;-)

Today she showed me MIT's Personas | Metropath (ologies) site. Find out what people are finding out about you, too. I'd be interested in the results, too, about you.

Here is what I learned about me Suzanne Bowen (not the aerobics instructor or the real estate agent), from most reference to me:

Two Female Entrepreneurs on Direct Inward Dialing

Maria Gomez is the Customer Relations Manager and Co-Founder of GGGG Corporation. Suzanne Bowen, that's me, is the Vice President and Co-Founder of Super Technologies, Inc. in 1999 who offer the DIDXchange, the wholesale direct inward dialing marketplace. We discuss in English and Spanish what is so great about direct inward dialing, selling and buying DID on DIDX, and in particular the power of having a local presence in Colombia via a phone number.

Visit http://www.didx.net/podcast/?p=episode&name=2009-06-12_mariag_columbiadidx.mp3 at our DIDX podcast and listen.

Maria, from one end of Florida to the other... see you soon.

(I apologize to Maria and all readers for misspelling "Colombia." "Colombia" is correct. "Columbia" is wrong.)

Sorry but EthnoFrigginCentrism Costs Big Bucks

There's a trend that I wrote about in my TMC blog at http://blog.tmcnet.com/monetizing-ip-communications/2008/08/ethnocentricity-de-tizes-ip-communcations.html.

You and I lose financial, professional, social and personal opportunities because of our prejudices. I get about 900 - 1000 emails per day that are not spam.

On average 10 per day have some racial, gender, geek vs marketing types, religious, ethnocentric slurs, or lifestyle prejudicial statements and judgements. I bite my nails, get angry, as I realize what is being lost because of...

the IGNORANCE.

I've seen quality people not get hired because they are Mexican, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist, female, Caucasian, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, and so on. Whiskey tango foxtrot, Oscar?

I've seen Japanese vs Chinese, Europeans vs the rest of the world, Americans who will stick with Palin no matter what she is found guilty of, Pakistanis versus Indians, Saudis and Argentinians perceived as stuckup; geeks versus people who are not included among the geeks because of the way they speak, where they are from, their gender, their religion; men looking at women in technology as fluff and background, women believing it...

Or just any homogeneous group so tight-knit who keep talking about innovation and wondering why it is not happening. FACE IT. IT's YOU and ME who ARE GUILTY.

Carlos Mencia's verbal noises say it all, "Dee dee dee." Or to borrow from my favorite tech geek, my husband, "If you're not offended, you're not listening."

Turn a Webpage into a handset: Rethink at Ecomm 2008

I'd been reading Tim Panton on the Asterisk-biz list and met him in person at Ecomm 2008. A refreshing positive communicator. Not one to dis every other poster. Really impressed with his knowledge and decided to record him describing what he's up to.

He's turning the web page into a handset, by embedding a lightweight cross browser softphone into web sites and mashing it up with the rest of the site.
