When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Cry a Little, Laugh a Lot and Keep it UP
My first thought is ... for example, okay, so I am a white woman, the daughter of a protestant preacher and Vietnam War veteran, the wife of a USA government civil servant employee who works under the Department of Defense ... and I must say, it is true. On one hand, my husband tells me that I have to set my expectations for myself and my company higher than if I were a man. That's not a mystery to me.
My business partner who started Super Technologies, Inc. with me and many of the people in my company are from India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, but they are also some of the brightest, wisest, hard-working people I have ever met in my life.
I have traveled a lot in my life as a teacher, writer, entrepreneur, and business-owner with the goal to help my customers, number 1, and I do know that people do business differently in each area of the world.
But when I read something like this, after the countless 10-16 hour days that I and everyone in my company work and care for our customers, I admit for few moments that I want to cry.
But I can't. Tomorrow will be a new day.

Is the Phone Number (DID) Dead?
So, I emailed Hugh Goldstein my idea in the form of a Power Point presentation. And ... ITEXPO West has accepted.
Topic: Voice Interconnect and Peering Conference during ITEXPO West! Visit http://www.itexpo.com/ to sign up to attend, sponsor, exhibit.
Description: As VoIP services, presence, app markets and social networking begin to merge and dominate the consumer's Internet focus, are e.164 telephone numbers a thing of the past? This panel will explore the trends and opportunities, and give use cases for social networking, Video telephony and nongeographic number business and use scenarios.

What about CNAM and DIDX wholesale phone numbers?
However, in most cases, after the sale of a NON-CNAM enabled DID voip phone number, we can ask the provider to make the Name of the registered callers only on the DIDX Buyer's customer's DID number by activating CNAM Inbound service on the number. DIDX will be charged from the provider (seller, vendor) an extra fee per month and DIDX will pass that fee onto the DIDX Buyer if ordered.

To Use or Not to Use Google Voice Outside the USA
You don't get full usefulness from GV unless you are in the USA.
You will need to register from a USA IP address.
You will need a US phone number to send calls to, in order to validate the account.
GV does not easily connect to SIP. (Addition by Suzanne Bowen: but that is why Google bought Gizmo5.)
Outside the USA you can use GV for sending and receiving SMS.
Outside the USA you can use GV as a place to get voicemail.
Outside the USA you can make free calls to the USA only if you have a USA DID or a Gizmo5 account. There may be other hacks, but I don't recommend depending on any of these. Gizmo5 is less than 100% reliable.
(Show me a voIP application or cell phone service that is. None, none at all. The fact that the person says Gizmo5 is less than 100% reliable... congratulations, Gizmo5!!!!)

Vendor 700328 offers Auckland, New Zealand DID phone numbers .99 USD (99 cents) per month, zero NRC. Vendor rating is 5. 5,000 minutes and 1 channel is included.
Vendor 705156 offers MX City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara DID phone numbers $3 USD per month, $2 NRC. Vendor rating is 8. 10,000 minutes and 2 channels are included.
We are able to keep these good rates especially when the volume of sales is right, so we hope you'll take advantage.
Complete list of DID areas available are at http://www.didx.net/did showing the lowest rates available. Please keep in mind that most of the DIDs have more than one vendor and therefore, more than one NRC, MRC, features available such as caller id, sms, fax t38, and so on; number of minutes included, channels included, and chance to buy or not buy additional channels.

What do you think of FCC's National Broadband Plan?
How would you answer the same questions?
TMCnet Editor Stefania Viscusi: “What do you think of the FCC’s national broadband plan?”
Suzanne Bowen: Remember, I'm an ex-English teacher turned small business owner, so I have a different view than most who might have spent their whole career in telecommunications, engineering, and/or business in general.
Isn't this a 376 page preliminary report, like a first draft of a framework, so what we read today will change tomorrow? And what's wrong with that as long as progress is made? For the people, you and me and them. I see a potential for new kinds of jobs to replace the old and obsolete, more opportunities for more education for those who need it, and even better ... more collaborative education, improved public safety networks, narrowed gap between the 'haves' and the 'have nots,' and because of this, the empowerment of entrepreneurs with the tools needed to start businesses that put the unemployed back to work.
TMCnet Editor Stefania Viscusi: “How do you expect this plan to affect your markets?”
Suzanne Bowen: Our market is in every corner of Earth, wherever any one has a softswitch and an empowering and practical entrepreneurial idea for business. The plan would be a step in the right direction for that type of individual or organization who wants to leverage direct inward dialing and call forward management with other services and products. In turn, it pushes the future-thinking (previously traditional) telecoms who are major suppliers of DID on DIDX, to expand their Internet and wireless services, products and devices and to change the paradigm of expected main streams of revenue.
TMCnet Editor Stefania Viscusi:: “Any other thoughts on what this new plan means for the future of communications””
Suzanne Bowen: It's a bit lofty and dreamy for me to say, but here we go: Innovation might get new opportunities to come out of hiding in the minds of the most unobvious locations and types of people.

Bill McCarthy Shares Ideas on International Business
On the Vocati Communications blog, he mentions a few more words on the value of DIDX for IP communications' companies and how that wholesale platform enables the valuable end users to have a local presence where they need to in the world:
The person doing the interview was very generous and very kind. We are a huge fan of DIDX and what they do. Anyone visiting the page can purchase DIDs from any of the countries mentioned (and many more) from us or directly from DiDx (but what fun would that be?)
We are going to do a Spanish Version of this interview with Andres Acero, the other founder and Chief Operations Officer Worldwide and will share his thoughts with the listeners of this podcast. This is scheduled for December so stay tune!

New phone numbers from Jordan and Iceland on DIDX
Let me backtrack because some readers are asking:
1. What is a DID? It's an acronym meaning direct inward dialing. Today we use it synonymously with the phrase "phone number." Because of voice over Internet, SIP and open source telephony such as Asterisk and FreeSWITCH and more, telephone service providers are potentially able to provide anyone a phone number from any country in the world ... to have a local presence there.
2. Why would anyone want a phone number from Jordan or Iceland if they are not living and working in one of those countries? If you want to start receiving phone calls from people in a certain city or country, you want to make it easy for them to call you. They are more likely to call you if the phone number they dial is local to them. You buy a phone number that is local to them and set it to ring to your favorite instant messenger, a SIP or IAX2 address, landline or cell phone. Ask your telephone service provider if they are using DIDX.net? If they are, you have available to you ... phone numbers from more 60 countries. If they are not, send them to http://www.didx.net/signup.
