My social network on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and other offline and online groups are full of mobile experts, so ... my husband is asking: "FB universe, especially those with iPod Touch players...I love the apps I can download, WiFi capability, etc. But it's a bummer in an area where free WiFi network doesn't exist or is impossible to connect. Anyone know of a WiFi "card" which could plug into the input at the bottom? Please don't tell me to purchase an iPhone, I'm not ready to part with my cell provider...yet."
Thank you, http://the-gadgeteer.com.

Mary Anne Tolention's Facebook, Nokia or iPhone?
Want to eavesdrop?
Copy of Mary Anne Tolentino's Facebook wall discussion on Nokia or iPhone...
Mary Anne Tolentino... someone told me Texting in iphone is quite challenging. I tested it a few days ago in the apple store, medyo hard nga....easier with N97. Ergo, I need to decide will it be N97 or Iphone 3GS? Of course iphone looks sexier :)

Suzanne Bowen... Mary Anne, Perry Ismangil said the Nokia series is easier to text and use Internet on than the iPhone. He's at http://perry.ismangil.com/. I use Nokia e61i, a little older than the 97. Enjoy, whatever you decide!

Eric Tiongson... If texting is that important, I'd suggest the N97. :-) I'm using an E71 and I can't imagine doing as much typing as I do on an iPhone.

Mary Anne Tolentino... voice calls, SMS, email very impt, internet sufing, FB of course, video, camera those are the impt stuff I use it for. Not music, mauubos battery agad. Another consideration is, can I get a spare battery at once? mpt for me. cant wait to have it charged before i use it again.

Eric Tiongson... iPhone's cannot have their battery replaced, so usability-wise N97 is looking good for you. :-)
Catch though is that if you don't get an iPhone from Globe now, you might not get one in the next 2 years. Whereas Nokia's can be purchased anytime anywhere.

Tim May at Astricon 2008: mini history lesson in telephony
Tim May with Etone Connect. He's a telephony historian, or at least, that is how I defined him. We met him at Astricon 2008. He became interested in Internet telephony in the early 90s (same as me, but for me, it was to help me teach English to middle schoolers). In 1997, they provided a voip calling card for retailers. They created a voiceover at 2 cents/minute and their first order was over $1 million.
They are a SIP trunking provider and wholesale telephony now. He remembers going to all the free Cisco training classes. Listen to the complete interview and check http://www.EtoneConnect.com.
(Our company Super Technologies, Inc. is a media partner or sponsor for several global conferences via its DIDX (DIDXchange) media channels. To name a few: http://www.tmcnet.com/channels/did-ddi/, http://www.didx.net/events/, http://www.youtube.com/user/supertecvideos, Facebook groups and event areas, Linkedin event areas, as you well know, the list goes on an on. We serve over 12,000 IP-communications entities that range from competitive local exchange carriers and mobile operators to entrepreneurial mobile voip application providers and IP-PBX providers at www.didx.net to buy and sell USA and international phone numbers over SIP and IAX2.)

Old People Like Me and Technology
No, can't be! I just read Jay Deragon's blog post on the eMarketer report Boomers' Online Attitude.
Where is Rick Outzen, editor of the Independent News (online and hard copy)? I want him to read this article about boomers having the largest slice of online. I even wrote a letter to the editor of that lovely Pensacola area newspaper my thoughts and observations on this because I was tired of seeing text that basically was saying that those over 40 or maybe even over 30 are over the hill, useless, and not one bit innovative, and that we all need to spend our efforts encouraging the young and letting them grow the future.
Ok, so I've done my time and am still doing it. ;-)
I was a teacher for 17 years, a mom for 26, and I've spent many an hour working with young people in my profession. I don't mind, but hey, let's give credit to all. In fact, I know a young man named Max Arnold who is looking for a job, and he is the one cool enough to talk about Senior Citizens and VoIP at eComm 2008 here on Youtube. I gave him the idea during a discussion at eComm, and he flew with it.
From the synapsis on eMarketer... "Younger boomers (ages 44 to 53) act more like Gen X online. They watch more video online than older boomers and are avid texters. They participate in social networks—though not with the fervor of their children. All boomers, however, prefer e-mail to instant messaging."
Among my global circle of friends, partners, clients, suppliers, family who are sometimes more than one of those nouns in one, most are early and curious adopters of new technologies. My Facebook network always amazes me. I learn so much from them, and most are age 30 - 60, no joke! I should do a full analysis of this sometime.
I am considered a boomer and I prefer IM to e-mail any day and do participate in a couple social networks many minutes per day as a tool to help myself accomplish my philosophical, professional, intellectual and personal goals, way more than my 26 year old son does. Work is play. Play is work. Both are challenging and technology helps both to be so.
Ok, back to work!

Live demo of Mobile WiMax Connection at ISPCON
ISPCON in San Jose let us see first-hand the Mobile WiMAX Tower from Alvarion in San Jose, CA. They set up 3.65 GHz connectivity within 12 minutes. How? With a laptop using a wireless card provided network access to the exhibition floor from a few blocks away. BreezeMAX 3650 offered base station transmission to the small CPE in the Alvarion booth. Really!
The PtP link enabled visitors to the Alvarion exhibit to access the Internet. Visitors were able to get information and sign up online to take advantage of bulk discount pricing by becoming part of AlvarionCOMNET, designed exclusively for WISPs.
A short walk to the terrace of the McEnery San Jose Convention Center enabled onlookers to view the Mobile WiMAX Tower in the parking area down the street. Retracting the Tower to tow it off at the end of the day was just as fast and simple as the setup.
I've got a video somewhere in which I recorded some of the visitors at their booth discussing the demo. Where is it???? Find out more about WiMax and rural development at Alvarion.

VoIP Dead? eJamming Free Beta
Yesterday, I awoke early, pulled on a sweatsuit and drove to the Bayview Community Park with my husband. He took off running. I can't. I'm still suffering from a combination of post-marathon injuries (almost a year now) and shoulder problems (probably from dragging 2 huge suitcases full of company brochures and a backpack with 2 computers in it, all in the name of saving money on shipping).
So, I walked around and around the park, listening my Ipod Classic's list of voip podcasts, Geekspeak podcasts, and a little John Mayer or Gnarls Barkley sprinkled in. I switched over to 88.1 WUWF (national public radio) and heard about eJamming. My son is a strings teacher at a local high school. I am only good at harmonizing with my dependably alto voice.
"Need a skilled guitarist in Honolulu? Not a problem, Want a professional banjo player who listens to Slayer? How's about an arranger whose talent will get you on American Idol? Looking for a teacher to improve your chops? Search for them!"
Click on eJamming and sign up. This takes voice over Internet to an all new level!
"What's coming up? JamCastLive! - eJamming®JamCastLive is a live streaming webcast of your eJamming AUDiiO session going out in real time to whomever wants to listen -- even on cell phones -- and hey you can even get paid for it!"

Welcome to No Rules Telephony I: David Duffett at Astricon
David Duffett discusses regarding telephony, the old rules where we came from, open standards even back then in 1999, being boring, being remarkable and business advantages of open source telephony.
Talks about rules that have been busted. Chocolates flew everywhere. Ask Draython Savoi after he stated, "But I already am remarkable."
David Duffet has quite an interesting variety in his professional portfolio. One, he is known as one of the easiest to understand Asterisk Bootcamp instructors.
Part II of David Duffet's talk at Astricon on Youtube on my Astricon playlist.
I need to figure out how to turn the volume up while recording from my Nokia E61i. So for now, the only way to hear it well, is to put on a headset and turn it up.

Nihari, Telecom Billboards, and Empowerment of Internet
Thanks to Viddler.com, we were finally able to upload a copy of my presentation given at ITCN Asia 2008 in Karachi, Pakistan where 127,000 individuals attended and around 200 exhibited. I was definitely excited about the opportunity to speak among Asia's brightest telecom, government, technology-related minds.
Pakistan is a trend-setter in telecommunications. Its Wateen provides countrywide WIMAX, the first in the world to do this. PTCL offers countrywide IPTV, another world first. The price of a call to the USA from a Pakistan cell phone is around 1 cent per minute and SMS is commonly used, included in your package. Ufone, Chinamobile (I used Zong while there, great deal), Mobilink, and other cell phone services offer more services at lower rates than any cell phone services in the United States.
While in Pakistan, I visited with each of these companies at their offices as well as Telenor, Telecard, Hazara Telecom and more.
My stop in Pakistan was one of many stops around the world in August 2008 where my goals were to visit current and potential clients, suppliers, and the world's telecommunications think tank. Next time, I'm bringing my colleagues Steve Cayona, Anna Hollis, Sergey Okhapkin, and Lisa-anne Routley and any of the others who are ready for a global trip.
The presentation is at http://www.viddler.com/explore/suzannebowen/videos/1/. Other videos of other speakers are listed on my TMCNET blog, Youtube, and Google.
(One last item, as mentioned by me at Viddler, I apologize for my comment about Chinese and Vietnamese accent on English. If I could take it back, I would.)

I've visited the Jaxtr headquarters a few times in my rounds of the coolest voip companies around, and I have to tell you, the excitement among the employees (really a team) is catching. How do they do it?

I'm Sharing a Secret How you Can Influence Others Free
I'm dancing with joy as usual (at least in my head) but more than ever at this moment because I found a super strategy I want to share with you to influence others, publish your knowledge and views, and to collaborate with and learn from the best in your industry.
What's the secret? Blog Friends on Facebook! I added the Facebook application about two months ago, and it is one of my favorites. (Others I like are Scrabulous, Free Conference Calls, Traveler's IQ Challenge, ILike from the same guy who runs Garageband, Truphone, Myphone, FWD's Voicemail and there are more, but I'll stop there.)
Bloggers around the world, those I know and don't know, when you invite friends to add the Blog Friends application, they automatically become "Fans" of your blog and see your posts by preference in their "River." This "River" showcases your posts on their profile box for all their friends to see.
Better still than this, though, people who are "Fans" of *your* Fans will also get your posts in their "River," so you get exponentially more reads of your posts for each Blog Friend you add!
In this short period of time, I've used Blog Friends, I've got 40 "Fans." *Quantity isn't the exciting part here. It's the quality that turns me on. Every "fan" is linked to me because of shared interests. I'm also a fan of their blog.
An effective way to get new "Blog Friends" is to link to the application from your blog, along with your own explanation of why your readers might enjoy Blog Friends.
Here's the link you need: http://apps.facebook.com/blogfriends ... I believe in collaboration EVEN AMONG competitors. My company Super Technologies, Inc.'s DIDXchange is an example that proves this part of our mission.
Influence? You can all have it. I don't want to keep it to myself. ;-)
... Some of the text above I quoted directly from a Blog Friends email update.
*Note: A person can be proud to have the most friends, fans, cars, houses, etc. etc.... no problem, but but but, what is quality of those relationships, those items? Quality is what matters more to me.
