Putting Lipstick on Technology, Gorgeous Geeks


When I say "gorgeous," I don't mean necessarily in appearance. Gorgeous on the inside is much more important. They inspire me to experiment more than ever with technology and to come up with new ideas of how to empower any process or entity in a good way. The women in this Facebook group at Gorgeous Geeks are from Samsung, New Zealand, IBM, Cisco, many entrepreneurs and business owners, Malaysia, Montana, Florida, Singapore, UK, Uganda, and more.

Group Overview:The Gorgeous Geeks (GG), an interest group, formed by women currently and previously from the IT industry, who would like to encourage women to use technology as part of their lifestyles. The aim of the group is also to provide mentor or support for woman in the industry as well as to inspire other women to join the industry.

The group were inspired and touched by the Woman-In-Technology session back in 12 Sep 2007, hosted by Microsoft in it's premier and largest annual technology conference, Tech.Ed SEA 2007. The Gorgeous Geeks was launched in Jan 2008 subsequently.

The GG meet once in two or three months. Each meeting will discuss various IT or woman-in-IT related issues. Conferences and seminars are also held regularly in the area of Leadership and Entreprenuership. Future plan include provide support for women technopreneur and to help women to leverage technology in their business. GG also plans to roll out re-skill program to facilitate continuous learning and updates for women in the knowledge based economy.
