VON.x Brings Back the Town Hall Meeting in March

Get ready to experience the VON “Town Hall Meeting” to kickoff Spring VON in San Jose at the McEnery Convention Center on March 17 at 5 - 7 PM.

Jonathan Askin will be the host of the much missed town hall meetings. I remember him as general counsel and one of the original members of pulver.com enterprises. "He oversaw the legal, policy and regulatory affairs for the pulver operating companies, including Free World Dialup, Network2, PulverRadio, PulverTV, VON Magazine, and the VON Conferences. For the past year, Jonathan has dedicated his focus to becoming a Law Professor at Brooklyn Law School, where he currently teaches telecommunications, Internet and new media law."

Joining Askin in this meeting are Rick Whitt, Washington Telecom and Media Counsel for Google; Kathy Brown, Senior Vice President of Public Policy Development and Corporate Responsibility for Verizon, Larry Irving, former Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and others.

I think it was called the FCC Town Meeting in 2005 and then, there were none from 2006-2007. This year's topics are very attractive... a discussion of the a host of policy issues related to synergies and conflicts among VoIP, emerging wireless and traditional telephony; the evolution of Internet communications, video and social networks; emerging patent and other new technology issues; and inter-carrier compensation and universal funding issues. A must for those who think that "499" is a cuss word.

(Glad to help the RLECs... my Dad is served by an RLEC in Esto, Florida. On the other hand, most of us in the voIP industry are increasing bottom lines and customer base each year, but we're not a bunch of mega multi-millionaires.)
