Software Engineer Apoorve Dubey on His Book Flight of Ambition
Let me invite you to connect with Apoorve Dubey on Facebook and continue sharing with the world his book 'The Flight of Ambition.' I first met him when I was testing Skype and different recording software like Pamela, PrettyMay and CallBurner. Enjoy his latest interview by FlipKart.
Q1. Ambidexterity is a garb of the gifted. You are a proficient software engineer and a renowned author too. How do you strike a balance?
I became a writer by chance and an engineer by choice. I work as a software engineer and write in my spare time. But I love both these roles. I want to live fully and enjoy everything that I do. Whether it is social activities, writing, engineering, or entrepreneurship, I want to make a difference. I believe you get only one shot at life. Why not make it the best?
Q2. ‘The Flight of Ambition’ has helped many professionals cope with the ups and downs on the professional front. Tell us more about the book, its aim, target audience and source of inspiration?
I am overwhelmed with the response so far. The book has been received well. Writing gives me joy. It is a powerful medium, which allows me to express myself. The book has started touching the lives of people in a positive way. I receive emails from CEOs to students, praising the book. The book is making a contribution in their lives and that delights me.
As I said earlier, I am writer by accident. I have often repeated this story about the source of inspiration behind ‘The Flight of Ambition’. But every time I narrate this story I feel inspired to do more.
The story goes back to my IIT days. It was one of those casual mornings when I woke up late as usual. During our hostel days, the alarm in my mobile woke up the neighbors in my wing but not me. I was a sleepaholic. I rebuked myself once again for waking up late. It was a practice I religiously followed. After that I rushed to cafeteria for having a brunch. It was there that I met my friend who took me to a house in Velachery near our campus.
The house had nearly 20 children between ages two and 14 years. While most of the kids were playing; some of them were studying and others were just curiously staring at us. The kids addressed the couple as 'amma and appa'. My friend revealed that apart from two of those kids, all others had been adopted. They lived like a happy family. Muthukumar and Kala loved each kid as their own. This visit left an indelible impression on my mind. The selfless living of Muthukumar and Kala inspired me to write, 'The Flight of Ambition.' I was determined to make a contribution in the lives of people around me. The returns from the book will serve as a means for achieving the same.
Q3. Most writers are avid readers too. Have you been inspired by any particular author?
I am not much into fiction, but my favorite author is R.K. Narayan. I adore his books. The settings and the ambience created by R.K. Narayan is immortal. The simplicity, effortlessness and charm in his writing instantly strike a rapport with the readers. The depiction of his characters is majestic. When you read his books you can visualize everything scene by scene and that is the power of writing. You meet each character as if he is speaking to you. After reading R.K. Narayan, I was encouraged to write fiction and I am working on a novel now.
I am also fond of the books by Swami Vivekananda. His writings penetrate your being and instill courage and fearlessness. His remarkable persona is immortal and acts as a beacon of light for all who aspire to live selflessly.
Q4. Are there book/books that you would like to read time and again, and why?
Books, there are so many of them that I would like to mention. I used to be a vociferous reader, but these days I don’t get much time to read. I like to spend my free time reading and writing. Here are the top three books that come to my mind.
Bhagvad Gita is the ultimate guide of wisdom. I love reading it time and again. Every time I read it, I feel nourished and rejuvenated. It is an infallible source of wisdom and energy. Amazingly the book was written zillions of years ago yet it conveys a message that is pertinent in our times.
I have lost count on the number of times I have read Swami and Friends by RK Narayan. This book captures the innocence of childhood and takes you in to a world of its own. The mischievous acts, the impeccable characters and the ambience of the fictional town of Malgudi are simply exhilarating. How can anyone not love this book?
Every second Counts by Lance Armstrong. Every time I read this, I get inspired to push myself. A must read for everyone.
Q5. Since your book speaks of self-help and motivation, I am tempted to ask, if you believe in destiny.
Yes, I do. When I was in school, I wanted to get in to the defense services. I was selected in the NDA entrance exam. I was determined to be an army man. However, the day I was supposed to attend the SSB interview, I met with an accident. The accident did not prevent me from attending the SSB interview. The SSB interview takes around five days. I was in pain but decided to fight it out. I cleared the screening test and inched one step closer to my ambition.
Two days after the accident, I was unable to walk. The pain had become unbearable. I did not know what to do. It was one of the turning points of my life. A voice came from within and told me, ‘this is not the right place for you.’ And I decided to quit.
After coming home, I went for a medical examination and the x-ray revealed three fractures on my right foot. When I reflect on the decision, I think it was correct one.
I believe in destiny and think that “It is the road you take that decides your destiny and not your destiny that decides the road you take.” Your destiny is created by your actions. What you think of yourself that is what you make yourself. You have the power to choose who you want to be.
Q6. Tell us more about your book and the genre that interests you the most?
More often than not we have the ability to achieve much greater things, but we get caught in the mediocre things in life and waste our potential. When there is nothing higher to be achieved all energies are simply scattered in the ordinary and mundane pursuits.
What if your life ended today? Would you be happy and satisfied with what you have achieved? Are you following your passion and the things you love? You must find what you love and gives you fulfillment. Don’t be afraid to make a new beginning. You must explore the possibilities. ‘The Flight of Ambition’ is a book of possibilities. The motto of the book is to inspire people and bring out the greatest, grandest and the best in them.
As far as my own reading is concerned, my interest keeps fluctuating between different genres. I usually prefer to read autobiographies, management and inspirational kind of books. I like autobiographies of great people. These books offer an insight into the lives of great people. It helps you know them better. It is a great learning experience. Sometimes, I read fiction as well. Who doesn’t like a good story?
Q7. What are your thoughts on Infibeam.com promoting your books (national & International)?
I am grateful to Infibeam.com for promoting my book. There is nothing more endearing for a new author than to see his books being promotedJ. I wish all the very best to Infibeam.com and hope they continue to promote young talent.
Q8. We know you are an ace motivational writer. Is there a special motivational quote that is close to your heart?
"If you don't have the courage to walk alone others will not have the courage to walk with you." -- Apoorve Dubey
Be fearless and live your dreams. No one else can do it for you, unless you march forward. Life is too short to hold back on what you love. If you do not follow your dreams, who will? Don’t compare yourself with anyone. You are unique and here to live a grand life. Courage is to back yourself against all odds even when no one else does. A tiny bird trusts it ability to fly and it flies for thousands of miles at a stretch crossing the biggest oceans and keeps moving with faith in its wings. The bird keeps saying to us,
"You mustn't be afraid to do what you are born to do."
Q9. Do you have any special message for your fans?
I would like to end by saying that Know yourself, you are unique, priceless and a gift to this world. “Your time is the most valuable asset you have; invest it where you get the best returns.” Do not confine your life to yourself. Make it big. “Your Life is a gift that is unveiled when you expand it by touching the lives of others.” Remember, anything is possible if you try. I am waiting to read your success story. Begin now.
You can hear Apoorve and me talk about his passion and work on audio podcast, too.

Grade 5 Level Conservative PinoyKubo and its Medieval Concept According to Yahoo.ph Contributor
There was a review of PinoyKubo that has since been removed from the net, but I did respond to it."That last thing you want around you is a yes-man. Or woman. Surround yourself with haters, but not the kind that are looking for your downfall. I’m talking about the kind with a vested interest in your success and you being the best _______ you can be," says T.R.U.T.H, a blogger I don't always agree with but we get along great.
So thank you, to the naysayer. You make some good points, we will grow because of your review, but we don't agree with everything you penned.
1. Let's start with a "barrage of overrated PR releases these days about a Filipino (Pinoy) site called Pinoy Kubo" - Who is overrating them? Wow! I wrote them. I want to meet the ones who overrated them. It makes me feel good that one or more people out there are rating them high. There have only been three, so I wouldn't call that a "barrage."
2. So "Pinoy Kubo" means "nipa hut?" And "nipa hut" is something to be ashamed of? I'll have to study that more and ask for more opinions. A young Filipina innovator proposed the name to us. I thought it meant "welcome home." I'll leave it up to every day people to decide how they feel about PinoyKubo ... kind of like leaving it up to "the people" to decide about Apple, Go Daddy, Twitter, Yahoo, PetroBras, Jollibee, or SpellDial ... if what's behind the name is worth it.
3. PinoyKubo is racist? There is truth in comedy and comedy in truth, and both of those rock. It is true that as a blonde most of my life, I had to think smarter in order to battle stereotypes and as a women in telecommunications, and one over 50, I had to laugh a lot at myself and go with the flow. I like how Chelsea Handler handles steretypical women humor.
4. "politely greeted by a stranger who wanted to be my friend. Of course, I had to click the accept friend botton much like that one at Facebook" ... I'm glad you were treated politely. People often join social networks to connect with current friends and make new ones. PinoyKubo is no different. I have already connected with some cool people I never knew before like Carlota Cullarin of Manila (ESOL teacher now in South Korea), Chock Encabo from Alabang (movie script writer and history teacher), and Albert Padin from Cebu (founder of SpellDial) ... to name a few. I appreciate their accomplishments and am inspired by each of them.
5. "It's a Facebook clone,in short." I compared the two social networks, and there is quite a bit of difference. In fact, PinoyKubo is founded by Jonathan Sowah and crowd-sourced in its grassroots growth by all of its community. I just opened my new PinoyKubo electronic online store, pretty easy and cool. We hope to do more things like that to help people to become the entrepreneurs they are instead of waiting to be hired at a call center ... as Albert Padin mentions in a podcast at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2ZMdtgPUzA. Karl Ramirez, a popular social-minded musician from The Philippines, congratulated PinoyKubo on its style at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZHB1X58zdY and for using his song as the background of little Filipina's birthday party in Florida. At the same time, we do want PinoyKubo to be a global collaborative effort of love and fun and not just a clone of Facebook.
6. The banners that switch every few seconds include historians, teachers, politicians, writers, athletes, and more, some just every day people like me or anyone and others very famous and known or maybe famous and kind of forgotten. Our aim is to encourage people to set goals and work for their dreams by the examples of every day people or those who are supposed to be "famous."
We've interchanged the inspirational people banners with requests to get involved in good causes like children's health such as with Francesca who needed blood donations and encouraging more young Filipino/Filipina entrepreneurs such as Albert Padin of SpellDial.
7. Tagalog, English or which language? PinoyKubo uses English and Tagalog and everyone is welcome to communicate in any language they want. (Not yap wa' Hol! ... Klingon for "One language is never enough.") Meanwhile, I am slowly learning Tagalog. "Sige!" Why not?
8. "I went over the roaster of members and learned that it was not a global site, just a barrio one, from one of the remote towns in Laguna (outside Metro Manila) and that was when I realized that these were grade 5 level conservatives who have yet to use ebooks and learn that the world is bigger than their medieval concept of it."
That is a very close-minded, tunnel-visioned comment. I am apologizing for you to anyone who is from Laguna. But again, thank you, to the reviewer, for your review that made PinoyKubo even more popular than ever. Freedom of expression rocks. We need it. PinoyKubo needs it. The world needs it and you. In fact, you rock. Stay in touch.

Street Kids of Pakistan, an Act of Love by Ozair Rao and others
Ozair, thank you for sharing this story. It sounds like some of mine when I taught at George W. Carver Middle School in Century, FL. I hope you don't mind that share the mission of "street kids of Pakistan" and your recent letter with the world here on my blog.
Mission:
did u guys know? a child's basic need is to atleast have a glass of milk every day, not so suprisingly our steet kids have grown other needs, such as "samad bond"(glue sniffing), ciggrettes, "churs" (weed) etc..
many of these kids are either runaways, kicked out of the house, born to beggars, born to women in our prisons. what is a woman in our society to do if left out on the streets with their kids after serving their yrs in prison...wud YOU give them work?? then who will and who should? ..the govt should! every country has a ministry for children as operational departments of their goverments..
we have thousands of ngo's but only a handful are actually using those donations to help out the street children of pakistan.. guys this is our governments duty to actually do something about these kids, open up a ministry open up schools, open up shelters, educate them, vaccinate them, save them from street abuse, save them from aids and other deadly diseases...
is this the future of our country? ...join this group only if u r willing to make a difference..guys we want to take this to the supreme court asap as a suo moto (public interest) case, so sign up and lets spread some awareness...
btw if u get time watch the documentary made by the dawn news features staff on street kids, its called equinox.

NI Shares the Love from DIDX Team for its Wholesale Telephony Member Community
Nauman is one of the coolest, smartest, most customer-loved member on our DIDX team. I like the way he shares great deals on DID phone numbers for wholesale buyers in this video.

I'm not Talking About Sexuality
Inspired to talk facts! Two reasons, a Facebook update of a friend and the words in a sermon by the preacher (who says he is a conservative thinker) at East Hill church of Christ in Pensacola, FL. He said, "There is something in us that wants those who are not like us ... to fail, to die, to suffer."
The Facebook update Friday night: "What can we do to show the world that our country is not a people of violence, failure, and evil? The majority of us do not think like that, and we are not like that. We don't want a war on our soil or anywhere."
I went back today to see that wall update, and he deleted it. I wish he had not. It is an inspirational and haunting question that we can each ask about any country or homogeneous or hetergeneous group we are part of. I'm not talking about sexuality here. I'm talking about "Same" or "Mixed."
Don't give up being hopeful. Every action and word make a difference. Let me share a few observations, ideas and anecdotes.
1. My hair has been different shades of blond from day one in 1959. It has been curse at times. I am a woman. In fact, I was born a woman. I was born in the USA from parents who are/were Irish, German, Swedish, Italian and American Indian. You know the typical prejudicial comments ...
"I immediately dismiss anyone who is blonde. Heard of the dumb blonde who was locked inside her car? I can't take blondes seriously. Women drivers drive me insane. You need to not work so much. Stay home more and clean your house and cook. The only reason you have accomplished anything you have is that you are a blonde American woman. You're too skinny. You need to lose weight. Don't show people how smart you are. You cannot be smart."
I still laugh at jokes against blondes, women, etc. by Carlos Mencia.
2. Every day, people, who are local or abroad, click to add me on Facebook or Linkedin for different reasons. We are friends, in the same industry, fellow runners, in complimentary industries, customers, vendors, innovators, and/or family.
Every day, people, who are local or abroad, also do not add me on any social platform ...
or delete me from any particular network because they are afraid of my current network which is full of some "group" they fear, despise, and/or wish to ignore or erase from Earth: Atheists, Christians, Muslims, Agnostics, Hindus, Humanists, Middle Easterners, Politicians, Teachers, Inventors, Marketeers, Teen-agers, Old People, Women, Homosexuals, Heterosexuals, Pakistanis, Germans, Africans, Americans ... the list goes on and on.
(Don't worry. I was registered Republican from ages 18 - 48 because I always believed in independence, work ethic, and rights to take of yourself and your own as an individual but also ... others when you could ... who you believed really need it. I'm not a bleeding liberal. I did vote for Obama, and I'm still happy with my decision.)
Some who are in one of my networks, may never respond on my wall or other people's walls or tweet feeds because they fear contact with anyone different from them or anyone who the stereoptype is bad, dangerous, nasty, disgusting or to be avoided. Once, a person who I thought was my friend, introduced me to others as a "terrorist-enabler." He wasn't really joking. It is one of the times in my life that I have been the most hurt.
3. Many groups of people in emerging nations, developed countries, and every place in between, outside of or inside of any of them are still hopeful. You can see they value their action and word to make a good difference locally and globally, online and offline. Like ...
A. Have you heard of Cafe Headlion? It has a marketing library that is a compilation of books donated from people all over the world. Each donated set of books is dedicated to the donor, often with a letter from the donor/s. A guy in Northwest Florida is sending a new set with the titles: Sidney Poiter, Life Beyond Measure; The Perfect Salesforce; John Lennon, the Life; and Microtrends. Someone from Cafe Headlion is sending him some local music and traditional shalwar kameez for his students to enjoy and study.
Consider donating books to a library somewhere that you want to make a difference, local yes! But also abroad. It will come back to you, your country, the world that we share. What's it called? Pay it forward?
B. Have you heard of Linking Arms, Inc.; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Kalinga Kusum Foundation; the Kids Kulture Center and other organizations like them around the world? They promote education, self-sufficiency, goal-setting, work ethic, teamwork, and friendship both locally and globally. These are in U.S.A., India, Russia, and your country, lurking behind the scenes somewhere. Search them out. Help when you can. Start your own.
C. Use social media to help heal rifts among physical, geographical, emotional, personal, social or other areas and groups. If you are Argentinian, showcase great Argentinian people, technologies, art, and inventions, but also those of Venezuela, Mexico, and Ecuador. If you are a U.S.A. citizen, share the beauty, freedoms, entrepreneurship, movies of the US but also of Iraq and Canada. If you are Irani, introduce us to your music, poetry, and food, but also that of Israel and New Zealand.
Do something surprising and cool and good like this Pakistani guy did who explained "how to use fring" which Israeli-based in the language of Urdu (Pakistani) ... Hindi (Indian).
Or like my loving husband who often sees running from the viewpoint of a beginner runner even though he is flat out fast for a near "five decade old" guy. ;-) He actually ran/walked the last Crescent Classic 10K in New Orleans with 12 minute per milers. That is tough for someone who used to be tagged "elitist-minded" in regards to running and training for races. Do something different, a little scary, a little not like you that will help the world beginning with your area and then expand outward as you can. It is one step at a time.
Search the web and find what inspires you and what you have in common with those you never thought such would be true. I've only mentioned a few specific areas as a start.
Regarding our religion, our actions, our country, our lifestyle, our work ... I think we need to tell the truth, face the facts, not pretend we are never guilty, reach out a hand, and encourage productivity, hope, integrity, and compassion among ourselves and others who we think are not like us.
There's a great Chinese proverb in English here: The best way to get rid of an enemy is to make him a friend."
No matter where we are in time and space, let's not waste a second or iota of either or both.

Mzinga, Techistan and Rad-Info Share Social Media for Business Marketing
First, let me thank the guys from Inc.com who used my camera to film this. In fact, if anyone was at this panel discussion during ITEXPO East 2010 that Mzinga, Rad-Info and I were a part of and knows these guys, put them in touch with me. I want to thank them and love the commentary behind the camera. You must listen. If you can't see the video on this blog, go to Viddler. The video is 34 minutes long, too long to upload to Youtube. The original, much better quality version was almost 1 1/2 GB large, so I had to reduce the size and therefore the video quality, but the voice sounds pretty good.
Second, so sorry... me, the English teacher starting the presentation with a subject verb non-agreement. __________ and __________ is? Bad, bad. On the other hand listen to Isaac, Peter, some the audience and me as we share tips.
Mzinga's Isaac talks about who is the audience, solving your audience's needs, being a good observer, keeping in mind membership ROI (your networks)... It's a toolbox that enables conversations. Traditional marketing like mass emails compared to the new shows the greater efficiency of the new. He shares two case studies, the second one was their client AllState Insurance. The company looked to Mzinga to help them guildi a community on Allstate website for social networking. It would help their clients really interact with representatives about things like teenage car drivers, drinking and driving, seatbelts, senior citizen and estate planning, etc. Instead of keeping this in a walled garden, Mzinga helped Allstate use what is already available on the Internet in the form of social media.
I mention Linkedin recommendations and questions and answers; Facebook events, wall, pages and groups; Twitter's feed into Linkedin, mixing social media to help clients, vendors and industry partners get what THEY want. More on blogging and podcasting, digging to China, and more. Isaac has a very professional social networking/media service at Mzinga that he discusses. I share one case study of the one year marketing campaign to help Kenyan Americans get Kenya DID on DIDx.

Facebook Event Admin and Linkedin Claim Event Need to Marry
Facebook shouldn't be so rigid in its Events feature. Actually, I see Facebook and Linkedin have two different best practices that should be combined on both. On Linkedin, you can "claim the event," but not have other "Admins" like Facebook lets you. Ideally Facebook should let for example DIDXchange or Techistan add an event either is media partner or press agent for, let anyone else claim it as host such as Pegasus Consulting (Pvt) Ltd. for CONNECT IT Pakistan, and then the host can make the original "partner" like us to Pegasus Consulting (Pvt) Ltd. as another Admin.

Your Mindset Determines Social Media Use or Not
Your answers to the following questions determine what is the best way for you to use social media that you feel comfortable with, whether you are a software developer, drama queen, social butterfly, creative geek, business consultant, entrepreneur (serial or not)... Do you think people are basically good? Evil?
Do you want to change the world? Do you want to take over the world? Or you like it the way it is? Or do you think it is past hope? Or you don't care, you're just in it for whatever money you can make out of it?
Do you like to be the center of attention and your interaction tends to be one-sided... you talking and them listening? Do you tend to feel vain or modest? Do you notice more what other people are doing as opposed to what you are doing? Do you just want to observe and study? Do you like to take risks, love challenges?
Or do you prefer everything being as predictable as possible? Does eclecticism inspire you or do you want to only associate with sameness always? Cookbook approach or hodge podge or carefully constructed but constantly changing based on ongoing research? Answers to these questions, truthful answers will enlighten you.
Can you name popular social and/or business networkers and accurately state how they use and why they use social media the way they do? I'm sure you can. Check out these in different industries who use social media and are quite popular with certain groups of people: Geoff Livingston, Mari Smith, Jeff Pulver, Guy Kawasaki, Rich Tehrani, Tinu Abayomi-Paul, Om Malik, Jehan Ara, Nakagawa Shouko, Afrigator, Tariq Mustafa, Lance Armstrong, Jean Wyclef, and so on.
I'm looking forward to some discussions and debates here, on Facebook, Twitter, for podcasts and also in person at 4G World, CTIA Wireless and Entertainment, IIT's VoIP Conference, ITU Telecom World, and SUPERCOMM on many social networking, technical and business development mix of topics.

Encourage Others to Do Unto You
Have you ever heard people answer you with the excuse, "Look you wimp, this is just business"? They are right. There are many ways of doing business, but two main ones. You and I choose to do unto others before they do unto us or do unto others as we'd have them do unto us. As sappy as it sounds, I prefer and usually do the second no matter how cut-throat the other person is. In fact, this is one of the points I emphasized in my "Global Collaboration with Social Media for Business" presentation at ITEXPO West last week.
In fact if you do enough unto others as you would have them do unto you, eventually they will do unto you what they would have you do unto them. I've been experimenting with this concept all my life since my atheist turned Christian minister Dad instilled it into me.
We are in the IP communications industry that is in the mix of the rest of the world, right? We do benefit if we do not give up on encouraging others to do unto us as they would have us do unto them. There are some great tools that let you do that: face to face, yes... but also Facebook wall and friend suggestion, Linkedin answers and recommendations, TelecomYou's newness, your blog, Twitter RT, #, and @ and... Ask Diana at IPiFony. She agrees with me.
You can watch most of my presentation on Viddler.com under the ID suzannebowen. May the force be with you, but do something nice today like collaborate with your competitor?

Want to eavesdrop?
Copy of Mary Anne Tolentino's Facebook wall discussion on Nokia or iPhone...
Mary Anne Tolentino... someone told me Texting in iphone is quite challenging. I tested it a few days ago in the apple store, medyo hard nga....easier with N97. Ergo, I need to decide will it be N97 or Iphone 3GS? Of course iphone looks sexier :)

Eric Tiongson... If texting is that important, I'd suggest the N97. :-) I'm using an E71 and I can't imagine doing as much typing as I do on an iPhone.

Mary Anne Tolentino... voice calls, SMS, email very impt, internet sufing, FB of course, video, camera those are the impt stuff I use it for. Not music, mauubos battery agad. Another consideration is, can I get a spare battery at once? mpt for me. cant wait to have it charged before i use it again.

Eric Tiongson... iPhone's cannot have their battery replaced, so usability-wise N97 is looking good for you. :-)
Catch though is that if you don't get an iPhone from Globe now, you might not get one in the next 2 years. Whereas Nokia's can be purchased anytime anywhere.

Mary Anne Tolentino... so you mean they wont sell iphone in the open market? will u not get an iphone for u?
Eric Tiongson... they offered the older iPhone model, i want the new one. not sure if they have any on stock by now. :-)
and, nope, not aware of any plans to open up iPhone anytime soon.

Mary Anne Tolentino... end of july or early august ang dating ng iphone 3gs. N97 was released this week or was that last week? kaya ang hirap mag decide

Suzanne Bowen... Mary Anne, Perry Ismangil said the Nokia series is easier to text and use Internet on than the iPhone. He's at http://perry.ismangil.com/. I use Nokia e61i, a little older than the 97. Enjoy, whatever you decide!

Interview with Joel Driver, Asterisk Developer and Entrepreneur
Joel Driver first started playing with VoIP in 1995. Today he runs one of the web's most popular call forwarding service at myDivert.com. Listen to our discussion on the DIDX podcasts.
myDivert is a hot spot for startup entrepreneurs who need a local presence in as many as 60+ countries. myDivert makes it easy for its customers to start receiving phone calls from those who are most important to them. Their business partners, potential and current customers, friends and family will make a local call that myDivert's solution will route to where its customers has chosen to forward to ... SIP, IAX2 or a cell phone or landline phone.
Joel shares his experience with a history of his business ventures, what he is doing now that he is most excited about, websites he uses the most, how he as a service provider and experienced Asterisk developer has helped DIDX to improve, and advice he gives to other service providers or carriers who want to use DIDX to buy or sell phonenumbers.
Joel of myDivert.com is a good example of quick understanding of SEM (search engine marketing) and makes good use of tools such as Facebook, blogs, Twitter and Youtube. You can find Joel to business with and learn from by "googling" "buy DID number" or visit http://www.mydivert.com

Google Translate will Detect the Language
Awesome, bad to the bone, Google Translate. I tried it after reading this item on one of my Facebook friends in the telephony industry had this in his status: Jdeme do Prahy v pátek.
I chose DETECT Language and translate to English: Come to Prague on Friday.
So, is this making it tough for those who make a career out of translation? Could, but then again, I am never sure when I use Google Translate if it is really translating to share the meaning that I intend when translating from English to another language except maybe Spanish and Japanese, my second and third languages.
Working on Urdu too with the help of my little entrepreneurial friend Momina Rehan.

Social Media Marketing Mistakes Debate
Good job, Pam Lontos and Maurice Ramirez, Ph.D! They are the authors of "The Top 5 Mistakes of Social Media Marketing." What do you think?
Summary:
1. Have one image of yourself (brand) broadcast across the different SMM Internet platforms. I admit that I do have a different picture in a few places: Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Hi5, Plaxo, etc. and when I get a chance I'll streamline the profile pics, but it should be me, not what someone else wants me to be. I would never tell you what you should be. Besides, here ... I think image ... is mental, not physical (visual).
2. Don't just collect people. Make each relationship meaningful. Doesn't mean you have to be BFF with every single one, but know who they are and interact occasionally in ways that help you both.
3. Make your Facebook updates and Tweets, etc. helpful to your readers and observers and those interacting with you. Actually I disagree a bit with them on this item. They state saying something like this for a Tweet, "I'm watching a movie and eating popcorn," might not be a good idea. I think a little personal information mixed in with your commercial messages make us all fit a bit more connected. Maybe be a little more specific... like, "I'm watching Yes Man and eating some lime salted popcorn." Hmm... I might go watch that and try that popcorn, and I realize you are just as human as I am. I feel a bit more ... connected? ;-)
4. Posting inappropriate messages. Be as conservative as your most conservative client. Wait! There's such a thing as being boring and too safe. Be a bit of a risk taker. Be a little bit yourself. That's my opinion. Okay, so never post anything you wouldn't want your grandmother to see? What goes through my head is... what would I be willing to share with my Dad who is a preacher for the church of Christ. He's pretty funny himself and quite down to earth even though this particular church is known to be very conservative. Well, he's not my client, but he's a good measure of what's appropriate for me.
5. The last one... If you have something that is important to you to say and you think others can benefit from it, post it somewhere it feeds into all your social media marketing platforms you use. Ping.fm does a pretty good job at this. Facebook newsfeed can go automatically to Plaxo, etc.
I was thinking of a few more:
1. Making too many rules for those who follow you, add you, or want to befriend you. That's so negative, like I don't do NDAs or anyone who Tweets too much is off my network, or I don't accept people who don't add the TM mark on marks that require it.
2. Adding everyone, accepting everyone into your networks, even though you totally do not support their image. I.e., those who are constantly proselytizing their religion, politics, lifestyle or who put their company commercials on your wall without a real business relationship to begin with. You can say, "No." You can delete. You can block. You have the right. So I guess I do have a few rules.
You probably do, too. Debate is welcome as always!
Again, what do you think?
