Using Video to Share Expertise and Review on Filipino Social Network PinoyKubo
I convinced this young man to do exactly that but in particular about his experience so far with the PinoyKubo social network. He likes the fact he can see anyone anywhere in the world via PinoyKubo video over Internet and talk with them and show them how to do different things.
A transcript follows:
T = Tagalog E = English
T: Sawang sawa ka na ba sa Facebook?
E: Are you sick and tired of Facebook?
T: Puro notifications nalang ba ang nababasa mo doon?
E: Are notifications all that you get to read there?
T: Lumipat ka na kasi.
E: Just move to a different website already.
T: Saan pa? E di sa Pinoy Kubo!
E: Where else? Pinoy Kubo!
T: Magandang araw mga kaibigan, ako po si David at ikinagagalak ko pong ikwento sa inyo ang mga magagandang bagay na naghihintay para sa ating mga Pilipino, dito sa Pinoy Kubo.
E: Good day my friends, I'm David and I am thrilled to tell you about the wonderful things that are waiting for us Filipinos, here at Pinoy Kubo.
T: Ang Pinoy Kubo po ay isang social networking site katulad ng Friendster, Facebook, at Twitter, kung saan nagtitipon ang libo-libong mga Pilipino.
E: Pinoy Kubo is a social networking site like Friendster, Facebook, and Twitter, where thousands of Filipinos gather and meet with each other.
T: Ang isang magandang bagay po dito sa Pinoy Kubo, ay masmaraming mga Pilipino ang makakarehistro dito dahil tapat na tapat ang Pinoy Kubo sa wikang Pilipino.
E: One beautiful thing about Pinoy Kubo is that more Filipinos can register here since Pinoy Kubo is dedicated to the use of the Filipino language.
T: Ang Pinoy Kubo po ay isa sa mga pinaka-unang social networking site na Pilipino ang gumawa. 'Di lang po siya ginagamit bilang libangan, kundi na rin para sa negosyo.
E: Pinoy Kubo is one of the first social networking sites created by a Filipino. It can be used not only for leisure, but for business as well.
T: At dahil kakasimula pa lang nito, kung gusto niyong makilala o sumikat, e, pwedeng pwede niyo po gawin yan dito sa Pinoy Kubo.
E: And because it's still quite new, if you want to get noticed or become famous, Pinoy Kubo is the place you're looking for.
T: Kung 'di niyo naman po kayang iwanan ang Facebook, wag po kayong magalala dahil ang Pinoy Kubo po ay ginawa upang makipag tulungan sa Facebook.
E: If you have no intentions of leaving Facebook, don't worry! Because Pinoy Kubo is designed to complement Facebook, and not to compete with it.
T: At baka manosebleed na po ako sa kakaTagalog e, sumali nalang po kayo!
E: And because my nose might bleed from speaking in Filipino too much, just join already!
T: Ako po si David, para sa Pinoy Kubo!
E: My name is David, for Pinoy Kubo!
(Love for you to join the Karl Ramirez musician, activist and songwriter Fan Page on PinoyKubo.)

My Boss is Me and I'm Not Slowing Down for Her
Age and slow down? Is there such a thing? I can't speak for others, but I can speak myself and my husband will vouch for me. I used to work Monday - Friday about 6 AM - 6 PM and then start back about 8 PM - 10 PM and I would work another 16 hours or so over the weekend, averaging 80 hours a week. I very rarely complained, and when I did, it only irritated others. But ah! yes! Muaah!
We finally hired more qualified personnel, and I was able to relieve myself of tasks that do not come natural to me and pass to those whom they do. More than ever, I am enjoying our work at Super Technologies, Inc. because I have more time for my family and friends. In addition, the work I do now is what I am good at doing: publicity, marketing, writing, speaking, developing business.
I am definitely not slowing down. The time I used to spend poring over financial records and trying to solve technical problems I didn't understand, I am now reading more, taking my time to *research before writing. I am getting to know the fantastic and inspiring entrepreneurs and businesses all over the world via podcasts, video interviews and face to face at conferences and as a result, delivering content people are actually interesting in!
I finally have the chance to do the things that I always thought are important in business: showcasing the utter veracity, innovation and intelligence among men and women who are our clients, suppliers and vertical or horizontal "partners" in our IP communications social media "industry." I couldn't be happier in profession and career.
When I'm not working, I'm running, biking, doing yoga, playing with grandchildren, discussing books with daughter-in-law, herbal gardening, experimenting with eBay, working on a couple books that I may never finish, checking on all my adopted sons and daughters who work with me.
*Regarding research before writing... people think that writing is not work. If you love it, it doesn't feel like working, but it takes work to produce a piece worth reading, content worth passing on. Which reminds me, I have two very important pieces of writing that are taking much research and thought so that I wish I could work with no interruption for at least 3 days in a row to get them done:
1. The white paper/case study on Fax over IP DID and the demonstrations of this at the ITEXPO West Sept 1-3, 2009 conference, specifically at the DIDXchange booth 125
2. The speech or presentation I'll give at ITEXPO West 2009 in Los Angeles where we are a media partner and exhibitor, basically about "The Natural Fit of Social Media and Business" or something like that
My boss is me, and I'm not slowing down for her. ;-D Next race goal is the Mardi Gras Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon in New Orleans on Feb. 28, 2010.

Mary Anne Tolention's Facebook, Nokia or iPhone?
Copy of Mary Anne Tolentino's Facebook wall discussion on Nokia or iPhone...
Mary Anne Tolentino... someone told me Texting in iphone is quite challenging. I tested it a few days ago in the apple store, medyo hard nga....easier with N97. Ergo, I need to decide will it be N97 or Iphone 3GS? Of course iphone looks sexier :)
7 hours ago · Comment · Like
Edwin Sallan... i'm getting used to it now. tiyaga lang, Maan. =)
Edwin Sallan... although I don't think you'll regret opting for the N97, too. nice phone as well. did i just confuse you? =)
Jerry RiveraN97 it is
Suzanne Bowen... Mary Anne, Perry Ismangil said the Nokia series is easier to text and use Internet on than the iPhone. He's at http://perry.ismangil.com/. I use Nokia e61i, a little older than the 97. Enjoy, whatever you decide!

Jed Domingo... My humble vote goes for the N97...8-)
Travelife Mag... We find Nokia much easier for texting too.
Eric Tiongson... @Maan, you buying or Globe giving you one?
Mary Anne Tolentino... My handset upgrade of course am broke :) So which one? I like both! But I need to choose just one
7 hours ago
Mary Anne Tolentino... Txtng is impt but there are other considerations. Read a lot of reviews. Checked it out in apple store and nokia but briefly. I dont like to make a mistake cause will be tied up 2 yrs..........so
7 hours ago
Elmar M. Gomez... iPhone. Use N97 for your other SIM. :)
Eric Tiongson... If texting is that important, I'd suggest the N97. :-) I'm using an E71 and I can't imagine doing as much typing as I do on an iPhone.
Mary Anne Tolentino... voice calls, SMS, email very impt, internet sufing, FB of course, video, camera those are the impt stuff I use it for. Not music, mauubos battery agad. Another consideration is, can I get a spare battery at once? mpt for me. cant wait to have it charged before i use it again.
Eric Tiongson... iPhone's cannot have their battery replaced, so usability-wise N97 is looking good for you. :-)
Catch though is that if you don't get an iPhone from Globe now, you might not get one in the next 2 years. Whereas Nokia's can be purchased anytime anywhere.
Mary Anne Tolentino... so you mean they wont sell iphone in the open market? will u not get an iphone for u?
Eric Tiongson... they offered the older iPhone model, i want the new one. not sure if they have any on stock by now. :-)
and, nope, not aware of any plans to open up iPhone anytime soon.
Mary Anne Tolentino... end of july or early august ang dating ng iphone 3gs. N97 was released this week or was that last week? kaya ang hirap mag decide
5 hours ago
Suzanne Bowen... This is an excellent discussion on cell phone choice, Mary Anne. Small favor? Can I copy this discussion to my blog? Can I leave your names in or do I give a pseudo name for each? The content is something people should read.

Social Media Marketing Mistakes Debate
Summary:
1. Have one image of yourself (brand) broadcast across the different SMM Internet platforms. I admit that I do have a different picture in a few places: Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Hi5, Plaxo, etc. and when I get a chance I'll streamline the profile pics, but it should be me, not what someone else wants me to be. I would never tell you what you should be. Besides, here ... I think image ... is mental, not physical (visual).
2. Don't just collect people. Make each relationship meaningful. Doesn't mean you have to be BFF with every single one, but know who they are and interact occasionally in ways that help you both.
3. Make your Facebook updates and Tweets, etc. helpful to your readers and observers and those interacting with you. Actually I disagree a bit with them on this item. They state saying something like this for a Tweet, "I'm watching a movie and eating popcorn," might not be a good idea. I think a little personal information mixed in with your commercial messages make us all fit a bit more connected. Maybe be a little more specific... like, "I'm watching Yes Man and eating some lime salted popcorn." Hmm... I might go watch that and try that popcorn, and I realize you are just as human as I am. I feel a bit more ... connected? ;-)
4. Posting inappropriate messages. Be as conservative as your most conservative client. Wait! There's such a thing as being boring and too safe. Be a bit of a risk taker. Be a little bit yourself. That's my opinion. Okay, so never post anything you wouldn't want your grandmother to see? What goes through my head is... what would I be willing to share with my Dad who is a preacher for the church of Christ. He's pretty funny himself and quite down to earth even though this particular church is known to be very conservative. Well, he's not my client, but he's a good measure of what's appropriate for me.
5. The last one... If you have something that is important to you to say and you think others can benefit from it, post it somewhere it feeds into all your social media marketing platforms you use. Ping.fm does a pretty good job at this. Facebook newsfeed can go automatically to Plaxo, etc.
I was thinking of a few more:
1. Making too many rules for those who follow you, add you, or want to befriend you. That's so negative, like I don't do NDAs or anyone who Tweets too much is off my network, or I don't accept people who don't add the TM mark on marks that require it.
2. Adding everyone, accepting everyone into your networks, even though you totally do not support their image. I.e., those who are constantly proselytizing their religion, politics, lifestyle or who put their company commercials on your wall without a real business relationship to begin with. You can say, "No." You can delete. You can block. You have the right. So I guess I do have a few rules.
You probably do, too. Debate is welcome as always!
Again, what do you think?

Tinu's Challenge to Set Bad to the Bone New Year Goals
My shortlist of goals, a conglomeration of personal, intellectual, and professional goals is not to be afraid of being myself. As a teen-ager, I only paid attention to my Spanish and journalism classes. Other than that, I was concerned with rolling up my skirt just high enough to fit in with the other hippy girls at Encinal High in Alameda. I knew there was something missing: intellectual stimulation and challenge. I wasn't in Girl Scouts anymore ;-).
During my college years, I was still consumed with looking good and going to parties. As a teacher, I did an about face and reveled in the courses I taught: English, Internet research, school newspaper and yearbook, morning school news on TV, gifted studies, civics, American history, and community service. I don't remember any mirrors in my house in fact.
Then, I hit 40 which was a slightly dark time of my life. It wasn't my age. I loved my 40s and am enjoying my 50s even more. The black hole I fell in was good for me though. Anyone know what I mean? Best of all, now that I am out of it, I am constantly challenged professionally, intellectually, and personally like I always craved.
So...
1. Continue to focus on the inside and not the outside of myself and others. Do not be swayed by those who say I should wear more makeup, wax my upper lip, laser-treat the sun damage on my neck and who knows where else, and straighten my hair. I like how I am and I like how you are. Now, let's talk about what we've been reading, observing, and doing lately.
2. Enjoy the art of language, arranging a collection of words in a way that dances, slips, or dives off the tongue or keyboard. Be aware that some would like for me to KISS (keep it short and simple)... okay, for them, I will, but for others who enjoy, aw, what bliss.
3. Read more books, listen to more podcasts, and watch more documentaries, movies offline and online and find others who will love to discuss them with me or at least give me the opportunity to observe discussions. Blog on those bloggable topics.
4. Try to get along with people who I need to get along with and have a hard time getting along with.
5. Show, not just talk about the appreciation I have for my colleagues, my customers, my husband, my family, and my friends.
6. Remember that the best way to be great is to not think I am great and to treat every person: friend, colleague, customer, supplier, and family member with respect and care because that is how I want to be treated.
7. Take and give criticism with thought, and do not be afraid of either.
Tinu, let me know anything we can work together on. I'm glad I met you.
(Facebook has an RSS feed of my blog and this note is listed there at http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=32172677557. I've tagged a few people who are bloggers so maybe they can set goals/resolutions and be as late as I was or later if they wish. ;-) In fact, I encourage any and everyone make a list of goals on their blog. Pass it on.)
